Lost two trips because of strong winds and completed seven. Some were great and some were tough. Last trip was good with some 30+ inch fish. May be weather pattern this year but there were not as many fish overall as previous years. Steady stream of long gill nets in VA would be another factor. All fish caught of butterfly jigs or 6" sassy shad. Show more

Loads of fish on the reef mostly small saw a few snapper and scup that were descent size and missed all of them. So far a big ZERO for me here. Not for the lack of fish though. Also saw a small bull shark have to admit made me a little nerves : l Show more

Fished Tues and Wed last week where the Potomac meets the bay. Tuesday was great fishing but we had to run south about an hour and a half to the west side of Tangier Island to find fish. Once we found big birds and fish if was wide slam open for several hours. 3-4 ounce butterfly jigs were the hot ticket but soft plastics also caught. Wednesday was a total shutout. I have fished down there in December for many years and do not ever remember having a skunk on legal sized fish this time of year. Got "weathered out" on occasion. It is usually the most steady fishing of the year on the bay for good sized fish. Will decide today whether to go this Tues/Wed based on whether captain has been finding fish. Water temps were still good at 48/49 degrees.

Jeff caught the most as well as the largest. No luck posting photos. Maybe Jeff will share them once he gets off work Show more

Wish I would have taken the ride down to the Sass with Ommie and Brad. When the tide started doing what the rockfish like!

No hits at all, this was a bummer. I was hoping after last Monday, we would have a few weeks of getting better quality fish. Not sure if I will give up down there or give it 1 more shot. Today we had 12 fish, not high numbers but better size fish. 9 were legal size, 19" to 25". Hopefully this is a sign they will be here in numbers in the next few weeks. They are about 3 weeks later this year than they were last year. Show more
