Flats 8/5/14 Fished the flats this morning again and had a pretty good time of it. We got to our spot out there and had a LMB on my first cast. Put him back about an 18" er . Made a little move around a lot of floating grass and had a lot of action with the stripers. We got our 4 fish from 20 1/2-25"es, 5 throw backs and a lot of blow ups. We caught our last keeper at 7:55 and that was our last hit. It seems when that sun gets to bright they turn it off. It was a pretty morning out there.
Went over the Octoraro Friday, still dirty but saw Hickory Shad caught. Gave it a quick try, missed 4 or 5. May give it a try after the weekend. Went to Owens and what a difference a week makes, not one perch??? Walley Pete brought his boat up but still hasn't gone out.
FlyrobIt's game-on on the Ock!!! I fished last evening for about 30 minutes with fly gear and caught 5 missed lost 2 or 3 and loads of short strikes 1 nice white shad too.
Yeah Sparky, The little black and white varmit paid a visit to me up here in the quarry I fish. Not a hit. Slim Fast again
Sparky1423The worst part is the guy I fished with decided to hit one more area. I get a text of a picture of a 19" bass and 6 keeper slabs! Oh well, he deserves it...a good fisherman with a baby on the way. He just joined Fishzoo so hopefully he will send a report.
Trying again for perch tomorrow 3/1....so addicting! Hopefully I can get a few in the freezer, but my wife and I end up devouring them after they are cleaned. Excited to try out my new torqeedo, just finished installing...hopefully the motor will make the flats seem smaller.
A friend of mine had to run up to Cumberland on Sunday and he swung by Lake Habeeb (Rocky Gap State Park) and talked to several guys that were ice fishing. Some pickerel, walleye and quite a few nice yellow perch. Ice fishing is not my thing but if any of you guys do it it sounds like it may be worth a trip up 70 to 68.
Fished at the fisherman's park from 5-7 tonight. Started at the pumping station, went up to the dam, and came back to the boat ramp without even a bump. They started running water at about 6. Saw a few striper caught by the guys with surf rods up at the dam, but it didn't seem like much was happening. Just after the sun went down i landed 1 small walleye on a jiggy fly and missed 2 other fish, which were probably walleye.
Fished yesterday from daybreak til 830. I started at the mill and picked up a 17' striper on a bob's banger. I fished for maybe an hour longer, then moved up to the dam. Fished there for about another hour and got a small smallie on a jiggy fly. Water was low and clear.
icyguidesI also stopped at octoraro creek below the resevoir on my way home and fished for a little. Caught 1 gizzard shad, 1 small largemouth, and lost a nice largemouth when he/she spit the hook on the third jump. i talked to a guy who said his buddy caught a 30in striper at the little lowhead dam there.
Fished below the dam from 5 til sunset. Threw clousers, deceivers, and a bob's banger all evening with only 1 micro smallie to show. It was about the same size as my clouser. Didn't see anyone around me catch any either. they started running water at about 5:20.
Fished the Chesapeake with my father and a friend from thursday to saturday. We caught lots of fish over the three days, but we had a hard time finding fish of good size, especially stripers. We caught cocktail and snapper sized blues, a lot of short stripers (the biggest being 21 inches), 2 weakfish, croaker, and spot. I did well with a 1/0 brightly colored jiggy fly on a fast sinking line, but we also caught a lot of fish jigging spoons, and a few live lining spot. We found numerous schools of big bunker, but there were no gamefish following the schools.
Reports for Ocean City, Assateague Island, Chesapeake Bay, Lower Susquehanna River and Susquehanna Flats, Potomac River, Deep Creek lake fishing reports and fly fishing report for striped bass, stripers, rockfish, walleye and largemouth smallmouth fishing & crabbing.
